When you request a cadastral extract, the area of the plot is given in hectares (ha), ares (a) and centiares (ca).

👉 If you do not yet know how to obtain this extract, first read: How do I find a plot’s cadastral nature from a cadastral extract?

1. Understanding cadastral units

  • 1 hectare (ha) = 10,000 m²
  • 1 are (a) = 100 m²
  • 1 centiare (ca) = 1 m²

2. A worked example

Suppose your extract shows: 0 ha 2 a 30 ca

  • 0 ha = 0 × 10,000 = 0 m²
  • 2 ares = 2 × 100 = 200 m²
  • 30 centiares = 30 × 1 = 30 m²

➡️ Total = 230 m² ✅

3. Quick summary

  1. Check the values in ha / a / ca on the extract.
  2. Multiply: ha × 10,000, a × 100, ca × 1.
  3. Add everything up to get the area in m².
